Maremma garden with views

In the 1990’s we designed this 7-acre Tuscan garden in the costal Maremma region, boasting fantastic views of the sea, surrounded by famous vineyards and olive groves.  Our design includes a series of terraces and gardens, gently descending into the surrounding landscape, a herb garden, a buxus & lavender garden with a central pool, a hedged swimming pool garden and a hedge maze. At the entrance forecourt, which is above underground parking, we designed three terraces in different colours with a central fountain.

The main challenge was to design a series of gardens with different characters and colours while maintaining the view of the sea, and enhancing the strong sense of place evoked by the house and the surrounding hills.
